In the talk John explores the seven typical changes/challenges experienced by Hebridean communities over the last 200 years:
1/ Traditional run-rig settlements
2/ Crofts created by landowners
3/ Clearance of some settlements
4/ Population congestion in other villages and land raiding
5/ Government resettlement schemes
6/ Unplanned emigration
7/ Community land purchase
The townships of Pairc are used as a case study to explore these developments but similar issues were faced by communities across the Hebrides and the Highlands more generally.
